Are You Taking the Correct Probiotic?

Probiotics

Many healthcare practitioners believe that overall health begins in the digestive tract. Poor digestion compromises all parts of the body because the digestion of food provides fuel for all body processes, organs, and systems. The GI tract also plays a prominent role in immune health. The colonization of beneficial microorganisms has to be in place for the immune system to work properly. You would be shocked to know how many clients who have a compromised immune system are not on a probiotic.
Just like any living species, the environment for it to thrive in must be the focus. Individuals must be aware of what destroys the balance of the good and bad bacteria in their GI tract. If harmful organisms proliferate, the delicate balance is disturbed and it becomes very difficult for helpful bacteria to maintain their territory and to colonize the intestinal tract. Antibiotics from medications, certain foods and water tend to kill off both the beneficial and harmful bacteria, and thus disrupt the normal healthy balance of intestinal microorganisms.

Not all probiotics work the same. Individuals have different needs that require different strains of probiotics.

Probiotics vs. Prebiotics

Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that are normally present in a healthy digestive tract. They are important for proper digestion, prevention of yeast overgrowth, and synthesizing vitamin K. Probiotic bacteria, or “good bacteria,” promote favorable balance of intestinal microflora. The human intestines harbor between 300 and 1000 different species of flora. Some people estimate that there are one hundred billion or one trillion bacteria per gram of colonic content in the large intestine. This amount is ten times as many cells as there are in the human body!

Probiotics are naturally occurring in various types of foods like buttermilk, cheese, kefir, miso, sauerkraut, tempeh, and yogurt. However, most individuals are not consuming enough of these foods to colonize the GI tract and are consuming foods that are destroying the few they do have. Bacteria are continually in competition for colonization space. Beneficial bacteria has to win this battle for homeostasis.

Prebiotics are the “food” probiotics live on. They’re carbs your body can’t digest. So they move to your lower digestive tract, where they help the healthy bacteria grow. Sources of prebiotics are apples, bananas, berries, garlic, green veggies, oats, tomatoes, onions, and wheat. Eating a diet full of these foods will help insure your probiotic is getting “fuel” for its job. This is also a warning to those who are on a continuous KETO diet. You need some carbs for fuel (prebiotics) to work for the probiotic.

Frontier Biotics

This is a general probiotic I recommend for individuals who have their health foundations in place and are looking for a general broad spectrum for healthy colonization.

Recommended use for:

• Daily Multi for GI Tract
• Normalizing Digestion
• Supporting Regularity

Frontier Biotics is a non-dairy probiotic formulation produced from an all-natural source of beneficial microorganisms. It is designed to support digestive tract health and provide ingredients that support proper immune function and microbial balance in adults. Frontier Biotics contains some species of the numerous microorganisms that naturally populate the human gastrointestinal tract.

About the Ingredients:

Lactobacillus acidophilus (La-14): well-suited for intestinal survival, strong adhesion to intestinal wall, enhances immune regulation, inhibits common pathogens.

Bifidobacterium lactis (Bl-04): high tolerance to survival in intestinal conditions (acid & bile), strong adhesion to intestinal wall, maintains & rapidly restores microbiota after antibiotic therapy, improves immune response, may reduce inflammation.

Bifidobacterium longum (Bl-05) and Bifidobacterium breve (Bb-03: discovered in 1899 in the feces of breastfed infants and are the most abundant species in the intestines of nursing babies. Adheres well to intestinal wall and survives acid and bile.

Lactobacillus plantarum (Lp-115): Occurs spontaneously in naturally fermented plant-based foods like olives, sauerkraut, & kimchi. Used as starter in sourdough bread, meat products, & wine. High survival rates in human intestines (bile, acid, pepsin, and pancreatin). Modulates immune system and fights disease-causing bacteria.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus (Lr-32): Like the others, is well suited for survival in intestines (acid and bile) and adherence to intestinal wall. Anti-inflammatory and immune regulatory effects. Lactobacillus casei (Lc-11): Found naturally in fermented meat, milk, and vegetables, this strain is used as a started culture in fermented food products. This strain inhibits common pathogenic bacteria, is highly tolerant of acid and bile thus survives well in the human intestinal tract.

Lactobacillus salivarius (Ls-33): this species inhabits both the intestinal tract and the urogenital area. It modulates the immune system and inflammation, perhaps helping in colitis. Also inhibits common pathogens and is well-suited for intestinal survival.

SBC II

Recommended to support a more aggressive approach for:

• GI health
• Immune System
• Yeast Infections
• Diarrhea
• Gastrointestinal Balance

Stains:

Saccharomyces Boulardii (BioOtic) is a nonpathogenic yeast that has been proven to support the gastrointestinal tract. Research studies have proven that S.Boulardii may work by modulating the body’s immune response, thus helping to improve the resistance to enteropathogenic bacteria.

Bifidobacterium lactis (Bl-04): high tolerance to survival in intestinal conditions (acid & bile), strong adhesion to intestinal wall, maintains & rapidly restores microbiota after antibiotic therapy, improves immune response, may reduce inflammation.

The Bl-04 strains benefits include:

  • A long history of safe use
  • Well-Suited for intestinal survival
  • Gastrointestinal health and well-being
  • Beneficial modulation of immune functions

Intestinal health and Immune function
• Over 60% of your bodies immune cells live in the mucosal cells of the intestinal tract. This provides the body with the first line of defense against any foreign invaders. It is designed to activate and fight off any foreign invaders such as toxins, bacteria, yeasts, viruses, chemical plus many other things we are exposed to on a daily basis.

• Maintaining a normal and balanced microbial ecological system is vital to maximizing the immune system. This very delicate and complex system contains over 400 different species of probiotics and over 1 trillion cells.

Super Biotics

Recommended to support:

• Maximum Strength
• Auto Immune Support
• Support Bowel Regularity

Super Biotics contains 12 species of microorganisms from non-dairy sources. Because each strain has an affinity for a different part of the digestive tract, and a unique mechanism of action, a product that delivers multiple strains is preferable to single strain products.*

Super Biotics is:
· Guaranteed to contain 50 billion CFUs of microorganisms in each vegetarian capsule.
· A non-dairy multi probiotic product to best mimic normal human flora.*

Recommended For:
· Individuals who are lactose intolerant*
· Normalizing digestion*
· Supporting regularity*
· Urologic support*
· Immune system support*

About the Formula
Lactobacilli (L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus, L. casei, L. salivarius, L. Plantarum, L. Paracasei) are lactic acid-producing bacteria found in the human intestines. Many strains of bacteria from the Lactobacillus family have been shown to support bowel movement regularity, urogenital & vaginal health, production of the lactase enzymes and protection of the gut lining from unwanted materials.

L. salivarius is a probiotic strain that has been shown to survive low pH conditions. It has also been shown to support immune system function by modulating certain cytokines (IL-10 and IL-12). In vitro studies have shown that L. Salivarius strongly adheres to human epithelia cell lines. This interaction with the mucosa demonstrates its support of the intestinal immune system.

Bifidobacteria (B. lactis, B. longum, B. infantis) are located in the colon and produce lactic and acetic acids, making the gut an inhospitable environment for unwanted microorganisms. (2, 3). Bifidobacteria (and other species) have been shown to promote bowel movement regularity.

Streptococcus thermophilus is also a lactic acid producer, which lines the gut wall to protect the gut microbiome.* One animal study even showed that Streptococcus thermophilus helped alleviate allergic response and reduce airway inflammation in antibiotic-treated mice.

BioPro ENT

Digestion begins in the mouth and is dependent upon healthy teeth and gums. BioPro ENT is a chewable probiotic formula that contains ingredients targeted toward supporting microflora balance in the mouth and upper respiratory system.

BioPro ENT provides a combination of clinically-studied probiotic strains shown to support the health of the teeth, gums, ears, and sinuses. Featuring BLIS K12TM(Streptococcus salivarius K12), this mint-flavored chewable formula is ideal for promoting a healthy mouth and upper respiratory system.

Now that you have learned how important beneficial bacteria is, you may remember the statement earlier….Bacteria are continually in competition for colonization space. Beneficial bacteria has to win this battle for homeostasis. This leads the question, “Can you develop an overgrowth of beneficial bacteria?”

The answer is, yes. Rare, but it does happen. This is called SIBO…. Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth. This causes pain, bloating and can lead to malnutrition. Some of the symptoms are pain in the stomach, especially after eating, bloating, cramps, diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, regular feeling of fullness, and gas. As you can see, this can be very tricky to diagnose because these are similar symptoms to those who also need beneficial bacteria and enzymes.

A breath test is one of the easiest ways to diagnose this and usually an antibiotic is prescribed for treatment along with dietary changes. This begins the wheel again to colonize healthy bacteria.

The key factor here is balance. Too much of anything is NOT a good thing. Get your health foundations in place and live an 80/20 lifestyle.

Natural Pest Control That Works!

Since moving to a warmer and wetter climate, I have had to UP my pest control game. As much as I hated the cold temps in Colorado, it did bring welcome relief from those pesky mosquitoes, flies, ticks, spiders, etc. I could get away with a light peppermint infused spray or natural citronella to stop any invasion. Here in the south, it’s a different story.

It’s been a joy to watch and learn what my new home’s natural habitat looks like. The new spiders, the beautiful birds that keep the mosquito population down all by themselves, and even the fierceness of the tiny fire ant have all earned my respect. That doesn’t mean that I am going to share my home with them. Finding a product that is safe for my family and pets AND actually works has been a bit of an experiment, but I am happy to share with you that I have found a company that I love.

I have settled on the company, Cedarcide. Their products are backed by green chemistry and thoroughly tested for efficacy and dependability. They work closely with chemists and entomologists to deliver the best, family-safe goods on the market. They carefully select the ingredients for safety and performance — naturally sourced, plant-based, non-GMO ingredients are the backbone of the formulas.

I spray my home every six weeks and the yard area every couple weeks. This keeps all unwanted critters at bay and I have assurance that what is sprayed is safe for my family and pets. Also, as someone who is extremely sensitive to smells, these products have superseded my expectations.

The products fit perfectly into my holistic lifestyle and is why I have decided to partner up with Cedarcide and add them to The Fit Farmacy’s Store. I especially love that the products will not harm pollinators. The products are specifically designed not to deter beneficial bugs like bees and butterflies. And because the lawn products contain no harsh ingredients, no downtime is necessary. You, your family and pets can enjoy your yard immediately after application.

Note* Please apply lawn products in the morning or evening to avoid accidentally spraying pollinators directly.

You can order straight from the posted links and as always, clients of The Fit Farmacy earn a 20% discount on all products I sell.

Not a client yet, let’s change that. Everyone should have a Holistic Practitioner in their back pocket as a resource. Become a client today! But, let’s get back to the products! Here are some of my favorites that you will want to start using asap.

Just Don’t Lose the Weight; Transform Your Body

We’re coming up on that time of year where people begin to regret their holiday binges  and begin to focus on their new health goals.  The only problem with that is they were exactly in the same place this time last year… and the year before.

So what didn’t work this time?

  • Couldn’t afford the program
  • No motivation
  • Didn’t feel good
  • Cheated
  • Didn’t see results

Somehow people find themselves overwhelmed and tempted to jump in to whatever the next ‘miracle weight loss program’ is that is currently trending.  What happens though is one program will work for one but fails for another. Does this mean the program is flawed?  Not necessarily.  It just means that everyone’s body has specifically different needs.

That is where specialized sessions can be extremely beneficial for clients who are looking to really raise the bar to their general wellness.  Using biological digestive testing and biofeedback, a client’s body can communicate rather clearly what it is lacking and what it needs to avoid.

Autophagy…The Missing Link

Autophagy (self-eating) is the process in which cellular waste and dysfunctional proteins are recycled through the lysosome.  Beneficial outcomes of autophagy include:

  • It can maximize repair while minimizing damage during times of stress
  • It can improve cellular lifespan
  • It supports the overall metabolic rate by improving the function of the mitochondria
  • It supports neurological health and can remove degenerative proteins
  • It helps to remove intracellular pathogens
  • Helps to prevent the onset of degenerative conditions that are related to cellular abnormalities
  • Help to support digestive health by giving the GI tract time to repair via fasting
  • Helps in supporting healthy weight by modulation of inflammation and burning of fuel reserves

But to simplify it…

Autophagy can improve:

  • General wellness
  • The enhancement of detoxification benefits
  • Weight-loss or management
  • Metabolic conditions
  • Infections, especially intracellular pathogens
  • Neurodegeration

So How Do We Increase Autophagy?

As with any new health plan, everyone needs to make sure their body can withstand the stress. This also means for some clients, creating a state of autophagy for their body will not be beneficial.  This is why it is critical to be under a practitioner-led program.

Once elimination pathways are open and your body is cleared to begin a program like this the best way to achieve autophagy is through:

  • Mitochondria support
  • Ketogenic diets (clean keto)
  • Intermittent fasting or low calorie intake
  • High intensity interval training
  • Foods like green tea (EGCG), ginger
  • Supplements like respirators, curcumin, quercetin, and reishi

This can be very a foreign concept for many people because for years we have been told that it is healthy to eat every two hours, consume more carbs for more fuel, slow and steady cardio is beneficial, and fat is bad (low-fat craze).  Luckily, we are finally coming out of these “pro-aging” tendencies and are really looking at the cellular level to support overall health.

Also with the rise in popularity of the keto diet, it is every important to follow a clean keto plan with the correct omega-6 to omega-3 ratio.  This is where most people do not successfully support their overall health correctly.  They may see weight-loss results, but when their cholesterol results come in, they are less than happy.

So if you are ready to take back your health once and for all, let me help lead you down a path to overall wellness like never before.

I use a holistic Three-Phase program that helps to resolve unneeded stress to the body for maximum results

Phase 1: Detoxification… clients will start a gradual reduction in carbohydrate intake and introduction to Intermittent fasting while following a total-body cleansing protocol

Phase 2:  Keto Transition….  clients will begin transitions into a full ketogenic diet. Carbohydrates will be gradually reduced and fasting periods will be extended. Additional products to help sugar-crash symptoms and along with providing exogenous ketones in a natural and pure phosphatidylcholine liposomal delivery system.

Phase 3:  Keto Phase…Clients will be on a full ketogenic protocol consuming the majority of their calories from HEALTHY fats and observing a 16+ hour fast every day.

Don’t suffer in your symptoms anymore.  There is much life to be lived.  Start living and become the best version of yourself today.

A One Year Journey To Minimalism

The quality of your commitments will determine the course of your life.

-Ralph Marston

How would you rate the quality of your commitments?  I bring this up only because if you choose to embark on a journey to minimalism, you have to be committed.  When people come to this decision, most find that they are in a rut of some sort and they know changes need to be made.  In order for change to occur, you need to honor that commitment.

When it comes to minimalism, most people think it is about not wasting money, not over-spending, or over-eating, etc., which it is, but it is so much more.  This personal journey is also about living purposefully and intentionally (LPAI).

This will be my personal journey but I welcome the company.   I will only be posting the LPAIs that I have been led to pursue.  You can choose to watch, cheerlead, try a few, or jump all in with me.  I want to live out my passions and not be tied down to unfair relationship expectations or unfulfilling material desires.  Let’s face it, we have so much, but really, we need so little.

 How It Works

Every week I will be posting something that I am either getting rid of, cutting back from, or purposefully and mindfully paying attention to….No half-hearted trends here.

A few bonuses:

  • I will be posting a few blogs featuring guests that are joining me on this journey and what they are learning
  • Instagram Stories of the weekly “ditch or switch”
  • Tips to living frugile and within your means

I look forward to the growth that we will receive this year knowing how little we need to really LIVE PURPOSEFULLY and to LIVE INTENTIONALLY!

 Grow Your Mind Again

55DDB9AA-A375-4B2E-B3AE-61ACA58DAFA8

I love it when a “memory” on my social media pops up.  This reminds me of an actual event that I or someone close to me has experienced.  I am so convicted about the younger generations wasting away their “memories” by simply “watching” other people live their life.  I want my children to have memories of adventures, shenanigans, and epic tales that they can then share with their children and their children’s friends.  I want them living  OUT-LOUD and pursuing the gifts and talents God has given them.   I also know that in order for that to happen, I need to lead by example.

I would encourage you to value your TIME equally.  Children spell LOVE…. T-I-M-E… and it’s true.  We have so many options today that we can turn to that rob our time. Television, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Instagram feeds are all fun.  I get it.  But is the time we are wasting on them worth it in the long run?

I homeschool children, run a small business, and am a full time student at an accelerated pace, so I LOVE my down time.   I have to admit that I can enjoy a mindless Netflix binge just as much as the next person.  I had fallen into a rut with this and had become lazy in pursuing my dreams.  This was not okay.   I want to challenge my mind.  I want my children to see me growing and finding my purpose that then ignites them to find their own purpose. How can I ask them to be brave and chase their dreams if they see me doing nothing to chase mine? Mindless shows and feeds were robbing my family of quality TIME and muting our creativity.  Not anymore.

LPAI Tip One:

Find new ways to GROW your mind and avoid the mindless entertainment binges.

Find the love for the local library again and load up those creative podcasts that speak to YOU and they are FREE.  Ditch the cable, Netflix, and Instagram feeds. How much you need to step back from this is really your own conviction.  This potentially could save hundreds of dollars through out the year and allows room for the mind to grow again.

This doesn’t mean I am getting rid of the televisions or discontinuing my Netflix service….This is just the first step in regaining my vision and purpose.  Who knows, in one year, I might be ready to completely ditch this form of entertainment altogether.  I still need my downtime, but I have chosen to get it in FREE and creative forms.

Let God grow your mind again and relight a fire within you.  Be adventurous and take your loved ones with you.

Grow the memories, don’t just pass the time.

Ditch the Coffee Shops

CEAC8B4C-BD36-4225-BBD0-27B85A081E21-973885113-1562850947528.jpeg

I know, most of you are gasping at this week’s “Ditch and Switch”, but if you are serious about this minimalism thing, you will take a hard look at the wasted excess in your life.

I get it.  Coffee is more than a preferred morning drink to most people.  It is often a time of quiet reflection, an aromatic experience that speaks directly to the limbic system, and is even a social must for some.  But, we can have all this without the hefty price tag of designer coffee and without the toxic ingredient list.

First reason  to ditch the coffee shops…. your health.  Unless you’re buying your caffeine drip from a shop that serves clean ingredients you’re doing your body a great disservice.  Coffee beans are in the top three of most heavily sprayed crops.  The options that come with designer coffee usually will give us a huge dairy and sugar buzz as well.  If you’re not quite ready to give up the coffee for health reasons entirely at least make sure that you’re getting the healthiest version available.

Second reason to ditch the coffee shops…. your budget.  Really look at the amount you spend weekly on coffee and add it up to a monthly and then annual total.  One small compromise could, in return, give you an avenue to explore more intentionally and purposefully experiences.

LPAI Tip Two:

Brew your own cup of coffee or even switch to tea.   Put the extra money you save in a jar.  At the end of the year find a way to give back to your local community with the extra money you saved.

  1. Support local school clubs.
  2. Support local 4-H clubs.
  3. Support local food banks.
  4. Sponsor a family in need.  You never know what an extra $20 a week can do for a family,
  5. Maybe your family is the one in need.  Put that extra spending toward a debt or bill.

Get creative and even get the family involved.  It is easier to go without something you like when you have an objective.  You’ll be surprised what good can come out of something we overlook and take for granted.  Again, we have so much, but need so little.

What would you ditch the coffee shops for?

Start Planning Weekly Menus

and purchase ONLY what’s on your shopping list

D24B3030-9B1B-4594-B88B-B6C90E8B284B

Okay, this week is a bit of a challenge.  I really don’t spend wastefully.  For the most part I only get what my family needs, but when it comes to grocery shopping I can let it become an adventure and before I know it, I have a hefty bill.

If I’m not organized and planned out, I will purchase items I do not need and some items even go to waste because of the lack of planning.  For instance, I buy weekly meals and then forget that we have plans that will leave us away from the house…oops.  I buy as much as I can fresh or use what’s in season from the garden so food can go bad quickly if I am unorganized.

One way to really cut back and stop wasteful spending is to plan your weekly menus.  You can do this for a few meals a day, but I like to just focus on our dinner meal.  Often, we eat a “linner”, a larger meal in between lunch and dinner, especially if we are doing a 16-8 fast.

Another way to cut back is to schedule leftover nights.  Do not let that food sit long in the fridge and do not waste it.  If you have family members complain of leftovers….that’s another topic…if they’re hungry enough, they will eat it.

Family dinners are important to me.  It allows everyone to come to the table (gadget free), share in their day’s adventures, and talk about what’s going on in each of our lives.  Our dinner table is slowly shrinking in size, but I still love the time I spend with them there.  It is precious to me knowing I planned, shopped, prepared, and served a healthy, cost-effective meal.

LPAI Tip Three:

Plan weekly meals and purchase items only on your shopping list.

I printed out a weekly planner and used a frame to display our menu.  I use a wet erase marker that I can write with right on the glass and erase it when I go to plan the next week’s meals.

Other ways to help cut back and even save time is to subscribe to food delivery service.  I live too far away to enjoy this luxury, but there are curb-side services at many stores.  It just takes a few minutes of planning.  Just think of all the money you save by not shopping and buying impulsively anymore!

Closet Clutter

9EF74598-DD06-4307-9328-B46E395DE341

A quote from C.H. Spurgeon says, “If you are not content with what you have, you would not be satisfied if it were doubled.”  If you pause on that thought I feel you would find it incredible accurate.  I see the desire for self gratification everyday in our culture.  We need the latest, greatest, and updated versions of material items.  As soon as we have achieved the latest status or purchased the newest item, we are almost immediately on the hunt for the next “thing” we think we need.

A lesson for contentment is something I am far from an expert on, however I have learned to know the difference between want and need.  I have seen shopping become addictive for people and it really goes back to the original quote from above.  When is enough, enough?

As custom builders, my husband and I have worked together building homes from scratch for the last 23 years.  We have experienced feast and famine.  As with all things, there is wisdom in experience and unfortunately, there were times we did graduate from the school of “hard knocks”.  As hard as some of those lessons were, I am thankful for what they have taught me and developed in me.

I have been blessed with being able to design all of our homes.  For a while, it seemed we needed to upgrade every version.  Sadly, I would admit that some of our closets were big enough to be small bedrooms.  That might sound wonderful to some, but the problem with having an oversized closet is the need to FILL that oversized closet.  Talk about a waste.  How many shoes do you really need?  I wear $5.00 flip flops almost year round.

If you can’t get a handle on over-accumulating, all you have to do is move.  You become less and less attached to items.  Our last and prayerfully final move really put perspective on this.  I will share with you in many ways we have downsized items, but for now I want to focus on the closet.

My husband and I now share a 6’x3’ closet and one little dresser for every piece of clothing and we still could do some purging.  There is no need for an excess of clothing.  We both purged our clothes and shoes down to our needs.  It will save space, time, and your wallet to set a clothing budget and only get what you need.

LPAI Tip Four:

Follow this closet purge guide to help you on your minimalism journey.

  • How often do you wear it? Give yourself the one year test.
  • How good do you feel in it?  There’s no reason to be stuck in uncomfortable clothing.
  • Do you have more than one? Really do you need two?
  • Does it serve a purpose for your current life?
  • Do you look good in it? Somethings just aren’t very flattering.
  • Could other people get more use of the items than you do? Give back.  There really are people that would be blessed by your over-unbundance.
  • When shopping, do not get sucked in by compulsive buying.  Get what you NEED.

Gratitude Journaling

CB851BA3-46F7-4AD5-B0B9-F3C66444DE00

Gratitude….

It isn’t a word that has different levels of meaning.  You either have it or you don’t.  Unfortunately, we tend to experience it at the loss of something meaningful or something we had to go without.

I love how God works.  I like to sit back and mediate on how He brings certain lessons into my life.  I’m not always successful in this, but He is growing me and this week was just another way I had a chance to show my girls that there is beauty even in the midst of ashes if we know where to look.

We are wrapping up our local county fair and I can tell you that myself and the girls have had many lessons handed to us this week.  If someone would have told me last week what all would happen to us this week, I’m pretty sure I would have booked a flight and checked out for a while.  But, where would the lessons be found then? I could divulge in all the events that hit our family this week but I would rather focus on the gratitude side.

I ordered these journals as a part of the girls’ curriculum for school this fall.  This was something that we would end our day with.  Each one of us has our own and is to be worked on as we set the business of the day down and pick up a grateful heart.    I can’t think of a better time to start this new routine then at the end of this challenging week.

Proverbs 4: 23 says, “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”   At the end of the day, no matter what we faced, I pray we can find grace, patience, maybe a litter more wisdom, and most of all, gratitude.

LPAI Tip Five:

Start A Gratitude Journal

  • Write down four things you’re thankful for every night
  • Start praying that you can see the beauty in the midst of your lessons
  • Start disciplining your mind to drift toward the positive and push past the negative.

Week Six of

A One Year Journey to Minimalism

“Cooler” Life Hack

A5E8B9A4-95B2-41DC-A5C2-9DC771C13A59

Doesn’t everyone need a few tricks up their sleeve to make their life easier? I learned this little trick when we were living completely off-grid last year and I needed a way to keep extra coolers nice and cold for a few days without spending $5 a day on ice.  We lived in a camper with only a generator for electricity and we would have to haul in water for us and all my critters.  Let’s just say, I had to get creative. Luckily our camper fridge ran off propane so I could keep some things cool, but with a family….a camper fridge quickly runs out of space.

Luckily, this lesson has moved over to our camping adventures now.  And yes, we still love to camp! This especially works great if you’re to be off-grid for 3-4 days and need to keep food cool. We don’t have the ultimate coolers either.  Just a standard cooler with this hack allows us to keep all our drinks and food cool for 3-4 days without the “soggy” aftermath or the extra expense for ice.

LPAI Tip Six:

Freeze a case of water bottles

  • Freeze several water bottles and surround them in your cooler with your perishables.
  • As the bottles begin to thaw, you should be able to keep a nice a cool temp for 3-4 days.
  • Keep coolers in shade at all times.
  • Refreeze the bottles when you get home for the next time.
  • Freeze water in one gallon containers for ever bigger jobs.
  • If need be, as the water thaws, you can drink it if you run into a water shortage.  (But not recommended)

My Top Mother’s Day Picks

It’s that time of year again where kids and husbands alike start inquiring on what they should get for that special “mom” in their life. Let’s face it. Sometimes our creativity supercedes knowing what mom could really use.  Don’t get me wrong.  Us moms love the homemade cards, flowers, and crafts.  But in reality, there are a few little additions that most moms would love to have in their home.

Here are my top picks that you just can’t go wrong with.

#1 Dyson Cyclone V10 Cordless Stick Vacuum

There is no doubt about it.  If you want to make your mom’s life a lot easier, than this gift is number one on the list.  This vacuum can do it all.  I have yet to find a job that this little guy has not performed well with.  With it being cordless it doesn’t tackle huge jobs, but for the continuous sweeping and maintenance of housework/farm-work, it is a beast!  It is light enough that the littles have no problem running it.  With a few quick connections, it is now able to head outside for car clean up.  You will not be disappointed.

#2  Breville Juice Fountain Plus

It’s hard to find the time for proper detoxing and enzymes therapies.  This will be a gift that keeps on giving as your family learns the importance of letting the digestive system rest while still receiving powerful nutrients.  This gift benefits everyone in the home.

#3 NurtiBullet Pro

Meal time is just seconds away.  This powerful blender takes the prep work out of meal time.  Your family will receive all the benefits of a powerhouse meal that can literally be made in minutes and with easy clean up.  This is great for those warm summer evenings when you don’t want to heat up the kitchen.  You should not be eating heavy meals in the evening anyway so WIN WIN! For those of you with NO creativity, it comes with an entire booklet of recipes.

#4 The Family Wellness Kit

I have talked with many moms late at night that are needing advise on how they can help loved ones that are feeling under the weather.  Of course, this never replaces emergency care if needed.  The Family Wellness Kit offers a combination of supplements, herbs, and homeopathics for a natural approach to family health and safety. Moms can keep this easy-to-use kit in their home medicine cabinet for natural, effective, and non-toxic solutions for their common household ailments.

#5 Jumbo Salad Spinner

As you can probably tell, raw fruits and veggies are very important for our holistic lifestyle.  We have a salad usually every day.  We raise a large garden and grow it all organically which means we occasionally do have some bugs.  Washing our greens is so easy now with this salad spinner.  We all know how washing produce is so important…we might as well make it as easy as we can.

#6 Organic Wool Dryer Balls

I know!  This might not seem to be a very sentimental gift to give mom for Mother’s Day.  However, it is something she will appreciate very much.  Especially if it is paired with a couple of her favorite, therapeutic essential oils.  Allowing mom to use dryer balls during laundry helps to cut down on the toxic endocrine distrupers that are invading our homes.  PLUS, it saves so much money!

A few of my favorite esssential oils for laundry:

Rosemary

Lemongrass

Lavender

Jade Lemon

#7 Wine Filter and Aerator

NO more wine headaches!  For those moms that like a glass of wine at the end of the day, this if a great gift.  This filter removes the histamines and sulfate preservatives without compromising the taste of the wine.  This product will filter out all types of wines including sparkling! One filter will purify an entire bottle of wine.

#8 Dry Brush Kit

Every mom needs some time to pamper themselves.  A dry brush kit works well for those rare moments where mom can slip away to work on herself a bit. Dry brushing helps to open up two of the main elimination pathways of our body, the skin and lymph.  Ten minutes of dry brushing before showers helps to ensure momma’s overall health and if you follow it up with a wonder herbal bath then you’ve created a spa-like environment…which we all need from time to time.

A62F6860-9E0E-4FD8-95B7-D55A0D911FCB

Herbal Bath:

-Draw a very HOT bath.
-Put bath herbs in a large tea ball, cloth tea bath, cotton handkerchief, some tulle or a clean white cotton sock. You can toss the herbs straight into the bath, but you will be cleaning yourself and the tub after…who wants to do that?
-Steep herbs in bath water until it cools enough for you to get in without discomfort.
-Soak in the herb bath for about 15 to 20 minutes, breathing deeply so as to benefit from the aromatics.
-Many bathers choose to “seal” the herbals in by applying a thin layer of good skin oil (jojoba, almond, avocado, coconut) to damp skin, then drying gently.
A few of my favorite bath herbs are lavender, calendula, chamomile, peppermint, rosemary, eucalyptus, and Aloe Vera. I will use these for different reasons. Not all herbs carry the same actions.

*You need to know the actions of herbals before you start using them.

I hope you find a gift that is just perfect for that special mom in your life and as always, I am here for any questions or for any natural health concerns you have. Feel free to email me and don’t forget to follow me of FB, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Living Pain-Free

Pain is the number one reason why clients will seek out alternative or natural healthcare.  People are tired of living with constant pain while only getting pain-reducing options rather than dealing with the root cause of the pain itself.  Clients I see are tired of the ripple effect that OTCs and prescriptions are having on their bodies.  So, they start their journey to find what holistic health can do for them.

According to the National Health Interview Survey,  the CDC released a new report estimating that 50 million Americans, just over 20 percent of the adult population, have chronic pain. That mind-blowing number is the reason why chronic pain is the most common cause of long-term disability.

Whether you are experiencing acute or chronic pain, you need to ask yourself two questions regarding your therapy:

  • Are you helping to minimize the pain and discomfort by promoting recovery and regeneration?
  • Are you reducing swelling and improving the motility but not in a way that intervenes in the healing process?

If you are experiencing pain from an acute injury or trauma, arthritic and chronic pain, or chronic inflammation and disease, ask yourself those two questions.  By addressing health foundations and encouraging cellular regeneration you will better your chances of not being one of those statistics.

Natural health is definitely “trending” right now and it’s not always in a good way.  Most companies and their customers are marketing their products the same way that the pharmaceutical industry is:  “Take this and feel better”.  If you are not addressing the root cause, inflammatory markers, triggers, and the gut-brain connection issues, than it is hypocrisy at its finest.

This is why I do not sell my supplements, botanicals, and homeopathics on my website.  It is critical that the WHOLE person is observed and listened to.  I do not want to feed the epidemic of “the next miracle pill” which btw…there is NO such thing and if someone is telling you this, run for the hills.  The body, when put in the correct, supportive environment through proper cleansing, diet, and foundations, has the amazing ability to heal itself.  We, more than not, get in its way and inhibit any progress that it can make naturally.

The first few pieces of advice that I would give:

  • Be patient.  The pain, outside of an acute injury, did not appear overnight.  More than not, this is a reaction the body is having due to the years of abuse that it has endured.  You will not be fixing this in a day, a week, or even a month.  Give the body time to recovery and help facilitate the regeneration of tissues.
  • If you are not ALL IN in regards to your therapy, I personally would not take you on as a client.  Healing is a total-body connection.  Your entire body has to be involved to the point where healing and feeling good again is more important than anything that could hinder it.

A few tips can really make a huge difference….

  1. Cleansing is a must before any therapy is started…otherwise you are just washing dishes in dirty dishwater.
    • I use a protocols that cleanse the entire body in 14 days.
    • Professional-grade homeopathic, botanicals, and nutraceutical formulas designed to clear the body of dangerous toxins and regenerate health cells and tissues.
    • SIGNS OF TOXICITY:
      • Headaches
      • Fatigue
      • Weight Gain
      • Allergies
      • Chronic Illness
      • Depression
      • Aches and Pains
      • Anxiety
      • Sleep Problems
      • Autoimmunity
      • Frequent Colds and Flues
      • Skin Rashes/ache
      • Mental Fog
      • Infertility
  2. Support all health foundations taught through consultation.
  3. Decrease pro-inflammatory foods.
    • This will look different to every client.  This is also why  plans work for some people and not for the others.  Each client needs a personalized plan that their body is dictating.
    • This could look like AIP, paleo, autoimmunity paleo, clean keto, vegan, etc.
    • Adding in intermittent fasting is helpful but not always perfect.
  4. Lab testing to show inflammatory markers and triggers.
    • Taking a supplement or pill without addressing the trigger is madness.
  5. Support all the eliminatory pathways. BULLS
    • B- Bowels
    • U-Urinary
    • L-Lungs
    • L-Lympth
    • S-Skin
  6. Start adding in the product protocols that is personalized for the body’s needs. There are amazing products that can help with the body’s healing process.  THIS IS NOT A STAND ALONE SOLUTION and is why I addressed everything first before I got to the products.
    • NO synthetics
    • Organic and non-GMO
    • Know the difference between isolated and whole products and why you would want to use one over the other.
    • Get the most bang for you buck by making sure your supplements are actually being absorbed.  Most people can only absorb half of the nutrients in the supplement.  This means if you are taking 500mg of vitamin C, your body is most likely only absorbing 250mg. This is why I promote Liposmals.

So What Now?

I am very passionate about helping people launch themselves out of their comfort zones and take their health back into their own hands.  If you would like to learn more about the different holistic services and therapies I offer, please reach out to me.  I do local and phone consultations so distance is not a hinderance.

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things…

If you would have asked me 25 years ago if my life would be anything like the way it is now I would have ‘laughed-out-loud’.  That’s the funny thing about life though; it evolves, molds, and paves ways most of us wouldn’t have chosen.  I can say that I LOVE my life and I couldn’t fathom a life any different than the one I am living.  However, this life was given to me by many circumstances that was completely out of my husband’s and my hands.

My husband has been a home builder for over 20 years.  We have moved and started from scratch six times over the past 13 years.  Starting from scratch isn’t for the faint of heart.  Packing, storing, keeping the houses ‘show ready’ and never being able to put down roots hasn’t always been easy.  We have lived in barns, fifth wheels, and campers while we would establish our property enough to live ‘properly’ in.  My husband would joke and say that we were the 21st century pioneers.  We have homeschooled for 10 of those years, making our ‘moves’ even more challenging, but we always managed to land on our feet.  With each home we learned so much.  Sure, I would dream that each home could be our last one but God grew the ability of detachment in me as it was all vanity.  Through the years, we have learned to simplify our needs and to focus on our healthy lifestyle.  The path that led me to study as a Holistic Practitioner was due to a few personal health issues and a very personal vaccine injury in my family.  This really made me focus in on how I am raising my family and how I can help to improve their health.  My main focus through the years has led me to live as natural and toxic-free as we can.

I am very happy to say that, Lord willing, we have found our final resting place and even though we are starting from scratch…..again, we are thrilled that we finally get to call a place “home”.   We have taken all the lessons over the past 20 years, downsized our dreams just a bit, and are fulfilling our current dreams that have been placed in our hearts.  My husband, the provider, has worked very hard to allow us to live debt free.  Me, the country hippie, animal lover, and garden dweller…well, I have the dream of running a year-round, organic-producing farm.

With that being said, I have put a list together of a few of my favorite things that I couldn’t live without. Whether you live on a farm or not, these products have made my top ten list and I know you will love them too.  These products have made our lives easier and healthier and I can’t wait to share them with you.

My Top Ten Must-Haves

#1  NurtiBullet

The first product that I would be lost without is my NurtiBullet.  This is a new product to me but it has changed my life.  While studying to be a Holistic Practitioner, one of the key health points we learn about is the importance of REAL, raw, organic, nutrient-dense  food.  Smoothies have been a great way for my family to eat raw foods (and the kids don’t always see what goes into those smoothies).  Smoothies are also a great way to detoxify and help your body to run smooth.

#2 6 Quart Icecream Maker

This is a summer treat that my family absolutely loves.  This product allows me to make a completely organic treat for my family.  I don’t have to worry about unwanted ingredients and harmful chemicals like Polysorbate 80. This is a toxic ingredient found in many ice creams.  It has been shown to negatively affect the immune system, cause infertility issues, and it is also an ingredient found in some vaccines.

By making my own ice cream I don’t feel guilty because I know exactly what is going into it.  Yes, it is an occasional indulgence , so don’t overindulge.

My handed-down recipe for homemade icecream is here:

The World’s Best Homemade Ice-cream

#3 Mortar and Pestle Set

If you are a culinary extraordinaire (or at least you pretend to be), a hobbyist herbalist, or even just beginning to learn about how important herbs are, you are going to want to invest in a good mortar and pestle set.  From muddling mint for mojitos to grinding dried  pepper flakes, this set will be your best friend.  Plus, it makes a killer guacamole.

3FB7736A-F39B-4EA3-BFC9-C1999BE21061

#4  Cast Iron Set

Once you move to ‘the other side’ of toxic-free living, you will soon learn that you need to ditch the ever-so-popular, non-stick cookware.  Yes, cast iron cookware does need some attention and love but they are worth it.  If you think about how often you cook with contaminated cookware, it would be cheaper to buy a set of good cast iron and worth the maintenance to keep it nice than a heavy metal detox….and speaking of heavy metal detox…. if you’re needing one, let’s talk Cleansing Options.

#5 Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Filtration System

I really shouldn’t have to talk about the importance of good, clean water, but, alas….here we are.  You should be consuming half your body weight in ounces of pure H2O every single day.  If you’re not, you are backing up one of your body’s main elimation pathways.  No…..coffee, tea (not even green tea), energy drinks, etc. do not count towards your daily ounces of pure H2O.  City water treatment plants are not as healthy as you think.  Depending on the level of chlorine, you might even think about putting a filter on your shower head to block out the chlorine.  Heating chlorine is NOT your friend. We are blessed to have our own well drilled, but as soon as our living arrangements are finalized, this filtration system will be in place.

#6 Coffee Press

We are now living three months with no electricity except with the occasional treat that the generator gives us.  I invested in a good coffee press right away.  I only drink a cup a day and I make it super charged.  Sitting outside, sipping on some coffee on warm summer mornings while overlooking our beautiful pond and thanking the Lord for another day is one of my favorite times of the day.

My Morning Coffee

Colombia Jo

MCT Oil

Organic Turmeric

Organic Cinnamon

And, either a splash of organic half and half or coconut milk.

#7 Diffusers

Talk about diffuser withdrawal while being off-grid.  I run them when ever I can while we have the generator running.  But, when we have permanent electricity, I do have a diffuser in every room.  They have wonderful effects on our limbic system.  They help support not only or physical needs but also our emotional needs.  There are some tips and tricks to using EOs and diffusers.  One thing most people do not know is to NOT over diffuse.  We tend to think, the more the merrier.  This is not the case with essential oils.  You can become sensitized to them and actually develop an allergy to them.

If you need some EO education and support on how to use this wonderful modality, I would love to help.

Online Aromatherapy Class

#8 Etee Wraps

Ditch your plastic and keep your food fresher, longer.  Toxic plastic wrap, storage containers, and aluminum foil are no longer needed thanks to my washable Etee Wraps.  I use them to wrap up sandwiches, cover bowls, and store food safely in the frigde.
100% Hand made and 100% all natural, organic, non-GMO.

#9 Is My Top Farm Products

This could have dominated my list of favorites so I combined them into a sub-category.  I have had to learn a lot about running an organic farm and I am sure I still have LOTS to learn.  The care and products my animals receive are very important to me.  After all, they are giving us great nutrition in return.

1) Diatomaceous earth, Food grade

Whether you are maintaining a parasite-free coop and stable or ridding parasites naturally, DE is one of my favorite products to have on hand.  There are some health precautions to know about with handling DE.  Make sure it is food grade.  Do not inhale while dusting animals or the stable floors.

2) Colloidal Silver

Silver is always with me.  It is in my tack room ready for any occasion that I may come across,  I recently was able to help a new chick that had developed some congestion with silver along with helping a badly injured leg from one of my does.  When it comes to fighting off infection, this is my go-to product.

3) Apple Cider Vinager

Okay, really, what can’t ACV do?  All the farm animals get ACV in their water. It is especially helpful for chickens in egg production and helps feather growth when molting season arrives. For more on what ACV can do read my blog https://myfitfarmlife.com/2018/07/09/apple-cider-vinegar-uses-on-the-farm/

#10 Dyson V7 Motörhead

I never knew I could love a vacuum so much.  This is a workhorse that can go from carpet to floor to couch with no conversion necessary.  I love that it is cordless and can be converted to a handheld in seconds, which works great when I use it for the cars.  Even my kids enjoy vacuuming because it literally takes minimal effort!

I am always on the lookout for new ways to make our lives simpler, healthier, and easier.  What are your favorite must-have products that make your life easier, but healthier?

As always, I am here for any questions or health concerns you have. Feel free to email me and don’t forget to follow me of FB, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest.

No More Canola Oil

Sadly, I used canola oil for years.  It was a great frying oil because of the high smoke point and we were still in the era of “all fats are bad for you”  so this was a healthier option….or so they told me.

Let’s start with the name…canola.  What plant exactly does that come from? I know olive oil comes from olives; coconut oil comes from coconuts; peanut oil comes from peanuts.  I don’t know about you but I haven’t seen any canola plants growing around here lately and that’s because canola oil doesn’t come from plants.  It is made in a lab.

The rapeseed, where canola oil was derived, has been found to be very toxic to humans.  So, what is all the rapeseed farmers to do?  Get scientists involved.  They found that by eliminating the glucosinolates and erucic acid out of the rapeseed plant, it lessened the toxicity.  This was accomplished by cross-breeding traditional plants.  The newly developed plant was named canola.  A combination of the names, Canadian and Ola (meaning oil) was given to the new plant from where it was first developed.  So,  you’re looking at a genetically modified product (GMO).

I am just giving you a very brief reasoning on why you should step away from the canola oil. But if you are a research junky like me, I have included some more in-depth reading on canola oil.  Dr. Axe has put together a great read called, 6 Canola Dangers.   What I want to do is show you some healthier, NATURAL options so you don’t have to use canola oil anymore.  Let’s just all agree to stay away from oils that are made in labs.

I am so glad that we are beginning to understand how important good fats are for our brain, skin, hair, and nails.  Using oils both cold and hot have an important purpose, and knowing which ones to use will not only benefit your health, but will make your food taste better too!

Cold Oils

Cold oils have great properties when they aren’t heated.  They make wonderful salad dressings and marinades.  They also can be used for natural body care products such as moisturizers, carrier oils, and scrubs.

  • Olive Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Macadamia Oil
  • Almond Oil
  • Walnut Oil
  • Avocado Oil
  • Grapeseed Oil
  • Sesame Oil

Smoke Points

Moving on to cooking with oils now, I need to discuss smoke point.  Smoke point is the temperature at which an oil releases smoke.  I didn’t know this for years.  I would always cook with basically two oils and would occasionally burn food and have no idea why.

Low Smoke Point Oils

This would be used for light sautéing or basting.  Smoke point goes up to 350 degrees.

  • Olive Oil
  • Butter/Ghee (clarified)

Meduim Smoke Point Oils

This would be for the intended use of sautéing, low frying, basting, or popping.  The smoke point would be between 360 and 410 degrees.

  • Coconut Oil
  • Macadamia Oil
  • Almond Oil
  • Walnut Oil

High Smoke Point Oils

This is for use when deep frying and has a smoke point of 420 degrees and higher.

  • Sunflower Oil
  • Safflower Oil
  • Avocado Oil
  • Grapeseed Oil
  • Sesame Oil
  • Palm Oil

What I didn’t Know…

When I used oils with the incorrect smoke points, the improper temperature would actually breakdown the qualities of the oil, much like microwaving our food does.  I would also have a lot of smoke in the kitchen.  I want the good qualities left in the oils so that my body can have the benefits from them… remember…. brain, hair, skin, and nail perks? This is why I like cold-pressed oils and stay away from fractionation and hydrogenation.

My Top Five

It’s hard to choose, but if I would list my favorite oils they would be:

  • Olive Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Almond Oil
  • Grapeseeed Oil
  • AND,  of course, my favorite fat…. organic, grass-fed, pasture-raised BUTTER! Can we please throw away the fake butter now….

Blesssings,

Apple Cider Vinegar Uses On The Farm

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) has been overlooked as one of the top products to have on hand when in comes to maintaining a natural, healthy farm.  ACV can be used for almost anything.   It is very cost effective and it WORKS!

Running an organic farm is rewarding.  When I was putting my small farm into operation, the cleanliness of my herd and property was very important to me.  I wasn’t about trade in my natural and organic standards for a few, easy but toxic  “cleaning” techniques that could have harmful effects on not only the animals, but eventually on my family.  I am so thankful that history is our best teacher.  For thousands of years people have been putting into practice natural, organic farming techniques.   I think I will do it their way!

First of all, you need to know that not all apple cider vinegars are equal.  You need to find a raw, unfiltered, oraganic brand.  I do love the BRAGG Brand of ACV.  It doesn’t look or smell pretty but it does its job!  Just some of the reasons why you want to stay away from products with pasteurization, refining, or distilling is because these processes actually kill most of the healthy benefits of the ACV.  When buying raw, unfiltered ACV you will be receiving a product that is full of potassium, phosphorus, sodium, magnesium, sulfur, iron, copper, plus so much more.  These wonderful minerals would have been killed in the pasteurization process otherwise.

I hope that you start to add ACV into your daily routines so that you and your farm can start to see the difference it makes.  These are some of my favorites ways to use ACV:

Pest Control

If you have animals you have had to face pest control one way or another.  Flies, fruit flies, fleas, and ticks will have met their match once you have your rinse or spray formulated.  For heavy contamination of bugs, a rinse with 50/50 ACV and water mixture should be used to bathe the animal.  For maintenance, have a spray bottle diluted 50/50 ACV and distilled water and spray down animals once a day.  It also helps to disinfect the coops, pins, buckets, and feeders.

NOTE* ACV isn’t a friend of metal pans or feeders.

Digestive Health

ACV is a great way to maintain a normal pH balance in our animals and in us!  When our bodies have the proper pH, we can absorb the nutrients it needs to function and fight off disease. It helps to fight off bacteria and candida overgrowth that could lead to many health problems.  This also helps pest control when taken internally.  It literally makes the bugs NOT want to bite!  WIN WIN!

For Humans – 1 TBSP added to 1 cup of warm water daily

For Poultry- 1-2 TBSP for 1 gallon of water

For Dogs and Cats- 1 tsp in water bowl

For Goats/Sheep-  2 TBSP for 1 gallon of water

Chickens

I already listed why chickens need ACV for digestive health but they benefit from it in so many other ways.  Both meat birds and egg layers need ACV in their diet. With ACV being so rich in minerals, it aids in the production of healthy eggs.  It also helps them recover lost feathers after molting.  We want our meat birds as healthy as they can be.  ACV gives them the health boost they need along with providing very tender meat.

Disinfectant

Remember me talking about keeping the coops and pins clean?  A 50/50 spray will be in every tack room you have.  You can spray down nesting boxes, feeders, bowls, kennels, brushes, and combs.  ACV can help to kill pathogens, including bacteria. It can be used topically or internally, which makes it perfect for cleaning and disinfecting.  It can also be used as a food preservative (very important in canning foods) which can stop the growth of bacteria like E. coli.

*NOTE -ACV isn’t a friend to metal pans or feeders.

Fruit and Veggie Wash

Of course I am going to promote buying only organic produce. However, sometimes that just isn’t an option.  I have had to rely on conventionally grown produce more than just a time or two.  A great way to clean all those toxins off is in a veggie soak.

Dilute 1 Tbsp ACV in 1 cup of water.
Add fruit or veggies.
Soak and stir (literally shake the food around) for about 5 minutes.
Rinse well, dry, and store properly.

If you’re not sure it works, just look at the bowl after you have removed the food.  YUCK!

Now, giving your produce a ACV wash isn’t just to clean them.  It also preserves them a bit so your produce will last longer in the fridge.

Here are some great tips on how to store your produce after an ACV wash:

AIR-TIGHT CONTAINER

bell peppers
broccoli
cabbage
carrots
cherries
cucumber
radish
spinach                                                                                                                                    asparagus

VENTILATED CONTAINER OR PLASTIC BAG IN THE FRIDGE

berries
eggplant
mushrooms
snap peas                                                                                                                                       greens and lettuce (they can be washed and stored in a plastic bag with a damp paper towel however, I have had better luck with them in an air-tight container)

ON THE COUNTER

avocado
bananas
mango
melon                                                                                                                                               citrus                                                                                                                                            peaches and plums
tomatoes (don’t ever put tomatoes in the fridge, it may preserve them but it will greatly affect their taste)

Hives

My final use for ACV that I am going to share is for hives.  A diluted formula of 1/5 ACV to water (in a glass spray bottle) works wonders.   My daughter kept breaking out in hives after an ATV accident.  It was from many different issues that was going on with her but we turned to the ACV spray for immediate relief.  We added in a few dietary changes to help as well but every time she broke out, her hives would dissipate in a matter of minutes after the spray had soaked in.

Need More Help?

I hope that you have found some new and beneficial uses of ACV.  I have my favorite brand linked straight to amazon if you can’t wait to add this to your natural medicine cabinet. I have used ACV in many other ways such as removing moles and warts and it is a great aid in helping to regulate blood sugar.  These are just some of the ways that a CNHP can help show you how natural methods can improve your health.  You can set up a consultation and learn of all the ways you can benefit from being on my client list.

Cleanse Your Liver Naturally

Why Should You Cleanse Your Liver?

The liver plays an essential role in the body including metabolism, digestion, energy storage, and hormone production. It is also the major detoxifying organ in the body.

The liver is also pivotal for purifying the blood and plays a key role in converting carbohydrates to energy, as well as storing energy in the form of glycogen and fats. It is responsible for these vital functions:

  • Filtering and processing all food, nutrients, alcohol, drugs, and other materials that enter the bloodstream and letting them pass, and breaking them down or storing them
  • Manufacturing bile needed to emulsify fats for digestion
  • Making and breaking down many hormones, including cholesterol, testosterone, and estrogens
  • Regulating blood sugar levels

Virtually every function of the human body depends on the liver.

There are two major phases of normal liver detoxification:

Phase 1 Detoxification- where biotransformation take place
Phase 2 Detoxification- where conjugation takes place

Without going into the full anatomy session of the liver I will summarize for clarity purposes.

In phase one of detoxification, toxins are broken down (enzymes break down toxins, drugs, alcohol, caffeine, hormones, etc.) that are fat soluble by removing molecules of the substance.

In phase two of detoxification, the natural substances are added to the metabolites (broken down toxins) from phase one. This forms a substance that is no longer toxic and is ready to be transported out of the body.

Sounds great, right? However, if your liver is not working properly and phase two is not able to flush the broken down toxins out, your body becomes overloaded with toxins. To make sure that the liver is working properly a good liver cleanse is recommended. It is important to reduce and eliminate toxins from our environment, from foods we eat, as well as being sure to consume adequate amounts of the nutrients needed for proper detoxification.

Fun Facts About the Liver:

  • About one-fourth of your total blood volume passes through your liver every minute.
  • It is the largest organ IN the body, essential for life.
  • It produces bile to help absorb fats and fat-soluble vitamins.
  • It removes or neutralizes poisons from the blood.
  • It removes germs and bacteria from the blood.
  • It makes proteins that regulate blood clotting.

Things That Stress the Liver:

  • Blocked bile ducts
  • Chronic hepatitis B and C
  • Diabetes, protein malnutrition, obesity, and corticosteroid use
  • Exposure to chemicals and parasites
  • Inherited diseases
  • Iron overload
  • Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)
  • Poor diet
  • Coffee and soda
  • Viruses

IS IT TIME TO DETOXIFY?

You cannot successfully cleanse your liver without addressing the emotional side to the liver. The emotions that are connected to the liver and gallbladder are anger and resentment. Symptoms can range from restless legs, outbursts and even violence. You will learn how to put to use emotional release techniques that raise energy levels, calms the mind, changes focus, shifts perception, removes negative connections, releases blocked energy and releases those toxic, trapped emotions.

I have put together a way to naturally cleanse your liver that covers nutrition, elimination, and emotional support. Cleansing gives the body strength to fight off disease and frees the overloaded liver from the accumulation of toxins, mucus, and parasites that build up through the years. Everyone is in need of a good liver cleanse from time to time so if you would like more information on how to cleanse your liver naturally, message me to set up a consultation.
